Laptop docking stations are extremely useful devices. They allow you to attach several more accessories to your computer.

However, with most tech, there will always be technical issues even with the most premium of devices. Below are five issues docking-station owners often encounter and how to resolve them:

1. Trouble Connecting to the Docking StationBefore doing any troubleshooting, make sure that your docking station is compatible with your computer first. To ensure proper connection, make sure that (1) your device is properly seated on the docking station by checking if both sides of the station are balanced; (2) before inserting your device, both sides of the docking station are pulled out; and (3) you remove any unnecessary accessories that hinder the docking station to be properly connected to your computer you can also download torrent using EZTV proxies.

2. Docking Station Not Recognized If the docking station is not recognized, do a hard reset.

While your computer is undocked and plugged to an electric outlet, press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds, and wait for the device to turn off. Right after, press and hold the volume-up button and power button together for at least 15 seconds. When the screen lights up and reveals the Windows logo, continue pressing the two buttons for at least another 15 seconds. You may now turn on the device again and see if the problem still persists.

3. External Monitors Not WorkingWhen the monitor displays a black screen, this means that the computer has not detected the external monitor connected to the docking station. Before troubleshooting this, you can first check your computer’s display settings and look for the attached monitor. If no monitor has been detected, change the Lid Close Action to any setting except for the Do Nothing option. If it is not a software issue, maybe you have faulty or broken cables. Replacing them should resolve the issue.

4. Audio and Sound Problems While DockedCheck your audio connections if you do not hear any sound while you are docked. See if your speakers are securely attached to the audio ports on the dock and if they are properly plugged in to an electric source and turned on. You can also check if the speaker is enabled by the computer. In the Manage Audio settings, find your speaker and set it to default. Try to test if the audio works on a different device. If it does, maybe the problem is with your speakers.

5. Charging Issues While DockedIf your computer is not charging while docked, check for the following: (1) if your device is securely positioned in the docking station, (2) if the power cable is properly attached to the docking station, (3) if the docking station is turned on, (4) if the electric outlet works properly, and (5) if the power strip (if you are using one) is turned on. If the problem still persists, remove other accessories that may draw power from the docking station.

6. Other Dock IssuesIf there are other problems with the docking station that have not been addressed above, you can try downloading the latest update for your device. Sometimes, issues are software-related and can be easily resolved with a simple update. If problems still persist, consult your docking station’s information pamphlet for troubleshooting instructions, or visit the product manufacturer’s online support page.Every docking station is different, and the solutions provided here may not necessarily work with your particular model. If you are still having a hard time dealing with issues with your docking station, it is best to contact technical support. Sometimes, tweaking with tech is best left to the professionals.
