Endoscopy is a certain test where a long tube is inserted inside the body so that the doctors can get to see the internal organs and the tissues present there. This procedure is also done if a doctor needs to do a minor surgery.

There are endoscopy products distributors who deal with the equipment that are needed for the testing procedure and they supply them to the medical stores and doctors chambers. This testing procedure is minimally invasive and they can be inserted through an opening in the human body like the mouth or the anus.

They can also be inserted into some small incisions like through abdomens or knees. When there is a surgery it can be completed with the help of small incisions and they are also assisted with some special instruments like the endoscopes and this procedure is also known as the keyhole surgery.

Endoscopy as a test has evolved a lot and hence they have much lesser risks these days and they help the doctors to get even better and detailed images of the liver and the bile ducts and they have become very important when it comes to medicinal studies.

Endoscopy is mostly prescribed because:

• They are very quick and relatively safe procedures.

• The main reasons for endoscopy are investigation, confirmation, and treatment.

• Endoscopy can be used to remove tumours or polyps from the digestive tracts as well.

Here are some major types of endoscopy that doctors prescribe these days depending on what problems the patient is having.

Gastrointestinal tract:

It is done to examine the stomach, esophagus, small intestine, colon (colonoscopy), large intestine, rectum (rectoscopy) and anus (anoscopy).

Respiratory tract:

It is done on the nose and is known as rhinoscopy. In case of examining the lower respiratory tract, the procedure is known as the bronchoscopy.

Ear:

This process is called Otoscopy.

Urinary tract and female reproductive tract:

When the endoscope test is done here it is known as Cystoscopy. Female reproductive tract test is called gynoscopy. In case of cervix it is called (colposcopy and in case of uterus it is known as hysteroscopy).

What is a capsule endoscopy?

This particular type of endoscopy came to the medical scene during the 1990s, and they use a wireless camera here. Endoscopy medical equipment suppliers also deal this these now. Here, the camera is so small that it gets easily fitted into a capsule and then the patient has to swallow it. Then the capsule travels through the digestive tract of a human being and keep taking pictures there which are examined by the doctor to find out the concrete reason behind the problems.

Capsule endoscopy is mainly done in order to check the small intestine. This is because; it is a particular area which is very difficult to examine and thus one needs a minute reading of the area.

In case of a regular endoscopy one needs to stay in an empty stomach for at least 6 hours before the test is done. The entire procedure takes 5 to 10 minutes.
