Driver Assistance Technologies To Help Reduce Trucking Accidents

Simon Hopes1679 03-Feb-2019

When it comes to trucking accidents, there have been many that have happened over the years. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration, more than 37,000 Americans died in vehicle accidents back in 2016. Not only this, but almost all vehicle accidents happen because of human errors. This means, these accidents could have been prevented if people were more careful when driving.

Although this is the case, there are now driver assistance technologies that can help reduce trucking accidents, since trucks are one of the main causes of crashes with other cars on the road. Keep reading to learn more about these driver assistance technologies that can help decrease these accidents.

You may be wondering why there are still so many accidents happening. The reason for this is because, truck drivers say the beeping and buzzing noises get on their nerves and distract them while they are driving.. So they turn the devices off. However, we need to get this information out to the public as to make more truck drivers and other people aware of the life-saving benefits of these driver assistance technologies and why they should be using them instead of turning them off.

Here are 5 driver assistance technologies and how they can help prevent trucking and other motor vehicle accidents and save lives.

Lane Departure Warning Systems and Lane Keeping Systems
The first life-saving technology is actually a two-in-one because we are going to talk about two different technologies that are the same but different. The lane departure warning system uses a camera to track the markings of the lane and can detect whether a vehicle is about to leave its lane in an unsafe way. It uses audio, visual or sensory warning to let the driver know this is happening.

The lane keeping system is a bit more advanced because it can take control of the vehicle if it is about to leave the lane. It can take control of the steering, brakes, and gas pedal or accelerator to bring the vehicle back into the right lane and prevent a crash from happening.

Both of these technologies can prevent head-on-collisions, sideswipe accidents, and can also prevent the vehicle from rolling over and crashing.

Blind Spot Detection Systems

Blind spot detection systems use cameras or sometimes sensors to let the driver know when someone is in their blind spot. This technology can be very helpful to the driver when they are trying to change lanes.

Forward Collision Warning Systems
This awesome technology can monitor the truck or cars speed, detect and calculate the speed of the vehicle in front of the car or truck and even measure what the distance is between the two vehicles. Then, once the car or truck is getting too close to the vehicle in front of it, it can then arn the driver so he or she can take action. Although it can do this, it can't take control of the vehicle so the driver will need to respond once alerted.

These are just a few of the great technologies that can save the life of the driver of the truck or car as well as save the lives of other vehicles on the road with this driver.
