Planning winter holidays from Singapore and dreaming of real snow? December to February is your window. Several destinations within a day's flight of Changi turn white every winter, and some are close enough for a long weekend. Here are seven of the best, with entry rules for Singapore passport holders.

The 7 Best Winter Holidays from Singapore for Snow
South Korea: Snow Within Seven Hours
Korea is the easiest real-snow trip from Singapore. Direct flights to Seoul take around six and a half hours, and Gangwon Province, home to Pyeongchang's ski resorts and Seoraksan National Park, usually has snow from December, with the most reliable conditions in January. Nami Island under snow is a favourite with families and K-drama fans.
Singapore passport holders can visit visa-free for stays of under 90 days. Korea's K-ETA exemption for Singaporeans runs until 31 December 2026, and you'll fill in the free e-Arrival Card instead. For trips from January 2027, check whether the exemption has been extended again before you fly. A sample Korea winter itinerary covers Seoul and the snowy mountains.
Japan: Hokkaido and the Sapporo Snow Festival
Hokkaido has some of the most reliable snow in Asia. The headline event is the Sapporo Snow Festival, confirmed for 4 to 11 February 2027 across three sites: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. It overlaps Singapore's Chinese New Year long weekend (6 to 8 February 2027), so you can catch it with little annual leave. Sapporo's average February temperature is about -2.3°C, so real winter wear is essential.
Singaporeans can visit Japan visa-free for short stays. Direct flights to Hokkaido are limited, so most travellers connect via Tokyo or another hub; book early for festival week. Our Japan holiday package can be adapted for winter.
Turkey: Snow on Cappadocia's Fairy Chimneys
Cappadocia under snow is one of the most striking winter sights anywhere: white valleys, cave hotels and, on clear mornings, hot air balloons. December days reach about 5 to 10°C, and nights drop below freezing. Balloon flights are cancelled more often in winter, so plan two or three mornings there.
Singaporeans can stay in Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Nonstop flights from Changi to Istanbul take roughly 11 to 12 hours. See our Turkey holiday package for an 8-day route through Istanbul, Pamukkale and Cappadocia.
Finland and Norway: Lapland Snow and the Northern Lights
For the most dependable snow on this list and a chance of the Northern Lights, Lapland is hard to beat. Winter brings husky and reindeer sledding, glass-roofed cabins and very long nights, which means more dark hours to watch for the aurora. Temperatures regularly fall well below freezing, so this trip needs the warmest clothing on this list.
Finland and Norway are in the Schengen Area, where Singaporeans can stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU's new ETIAS travel authorisation is expected to start in late 2026, so check whether you need one before you fly. Our Finland and Norway tour is built around winter in Lapland.
Switzerland: Alpine Snow and Mountain Railways
The Swiss Alps offer snow with comfort: scenic trains, cable cars and chalet towns such as Zermatt, Grindelwald and Interlaken. High-altitude spots like the Jungfraujoch have snow all year, so you'll see it even if the valleys are green. December also brings Christmas markets in Swiss and French cities.
Switzerland follows Schengen rules, including the upcoming ETIAS. Our France and Switzerland tour pairs Paris with the Alps.
Himachal Pradesh, India: Manali and Solang Valley
Himachal is one of the most affordable snow trips from Singapore. Manali and nearby Solang Valley usually see snow from December to February, with snow activities, mountain views and cosy hill-station stays. It's a good choice for families who want snow without a long-haul flight.
Singaporeans need an Indian e-visa, which you apply for online before travelling; our visa services team can handle it. Most trips fly to Delhi, then continue to Manali by road or a short domestic flight. See our Himachal tour package.
Kazakhstan: Snow Above Almaty
Almaty is a lesser-known snow destination with a big advantage: the mountains start right at the city's edge. The Shymbulak ski resort and the Medeu ice rink are a short drive from the centre, so you can ski in the morning and be back in a city café by afternoon.
Singaporeans can visit Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days per visit. Most of our Central Asia tours run in spring and autumn, so ask us about a winter Almaty trip.
Which Snow Destination Suits You?
• Shortest flight: South Korea, then Himachal.
• Snow festivals and food: Hokkaido in early February.
• Northern Lights: Finnish and Norwegian Lapland.
• Snow plus history: Cappadocia, Turkey.
• Easy Muslim-friendly travel: Turkey and Kazakhstan, where halal food is widely available.
• Snow plus a city break: Almaty or Switzerland.
Timing Your Trip Around Singapore Holidays
The MOE year-end school holidays run from 21 November to 31 December 2026, which suits Korea, Turkey, Lapland and Switzerland. New Year's Day falls on Friday 1 January 2027, giving a three-day weekend for a short Korea trip. The Chinese New Year long weekend (6 to 8 February 2027) lines up with the Sapporo Snow Festival. Flights around Christmas and Chinese New Year sell out early, so book your flights as soon as your dates are set.
What to Pack for a Snow Trip
Most Singaporeans don't own winter gear, so consider renting or borrowing it. You'll need a warm, waterproof coat, thermal base layers, gloves, a beanie, waterproof boots with good grip, and lip balm for the dry air.
A Note on Russia
Murmansk is a popular Northern Lights destination, but we haven't included Russia here. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently advises Singaporeans to defer all non-essential travel to Russia. Check the latest MFA travel advisory before considering it.
