Where to buy in Australia: List of stores and items that can be purchased

Hamza Abbasi368 17-Jan-2020

When we first arrived in Australia, we obviously knew nothing, and we didn't even know where to buy the basics. That is why today I want to share with you a list of Australian businesses for sale and list of places and websites that are normally cheap to get different products or services in Australia. I also include some tips to save and make the purchase process more comfortable.

Some apply only to Brisbane they appear with, but probably most apply to all of Australia, especially on the internet. That is why I also leave you the links of these places and invite you to search on google maps if they have any nearby.

NOTE: This is one of those articles that I advise you to have on hand, save the link in the notes of your cell phone or in your browser's favorites and keep it in mind when you arrive in Australia if you are not here yet.

Gumtree (online)

Gumtree is the number 1 page in Australia. On this page you can get everything: work, rooms for rent, cars, second-hand items, new items, etc.

On this page, companies offer their products and services and the common people (like you and me) offer what is no longer useful, what you do not need anymore, what you have repeated, or gifts that you did not like very much good price.

Ebay - Wish (online)

Ebay and Wish are applications or websites where you can get practically everything. I recommend them and have used them a lot, but you have to know how to find and identify that they can be of good quality and I would say that sometimes taking risks with things that are very economical.

Something that is important to keep in mind is that if the product is not in Australia, it usually takes 20 days or a month to arrive.

  On Ebay you can find:

• Cell phones

• Cell phone cases

• Accessories for cars and motorcycles as cell phone holder for car , bicycle or motorcycle

• Converters of the connection of Colombia to the one of here

• Nail Stickers

• Home decor (including things for Christmas)

• Computers

• Cameras

• and many other things.

Wish is more than everything for clothes. You can find things of acceptable quality as things of very poor quality that do not resemble the photos of the advertising, so it is important to look at the comments and photos that buyers put to see the reality of what you are buying. It has been good for me to buy, especially dresses for the summer ,Shoes and shirts

 Facebook groups swap sell (city)

They are groups where people offer products and articles of second or sometimes new, in a more local way for example cities or neighborhoods.

You can search by putting in the Facebook search “swap sell” and the name of your neighborhood or city.

Bargains

They are like a miscellaneous or one of those stores where they sell everything to 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 in Colombia. I mean, it's not that they sell at a definite price but more or less the same items.

Reject Shop, Daiso, Overflow and Mega Variety

They are names of chains of bargains, more organized and that can be found in several places with the exception of Mega Variety that you can only seen in the city of Brisbane.

 There they are, among others:

• Toiletries

• Stationery

• Toilet implements (deodorants, soaps, cleaning chemicals)

• Kitchen and laundry implements

• Toy store

• Gardening

• Decor

• Makeup

• Accessories (bags, scarves, gloves, glasses, etc.)

• Electronic cell phone accessories.

Kmart and BigW

They are stores that can be found in many shopping centers, you can get almost everything and it is economical. There you can get:

  • Clothing

• Kitchen implements (they sell everything and very economical)

• Furniture and things for the house

• Appliances (for example small rice cookers and fans and generators)

• Accessories for camping and going to the beach (chairs, tents, coolers, etc.)

• books

• Some sweets

• Technology and accessories

• Toy store

Bunnings

This is a chain of stores a bit like Home center in Colombia where you can buy things like:

• Home decoration

• Lights

• Tools

• Gardening items

Coles and Wolworths

They are the other two largest supermarkets in Australia. There is also a way to save by buying in these supermarkets and is to be aware of the promotions that have (that change every day) and buying items from the supermarket's own brands, which for me are of acceptable quality.

  Markets:

The markets are usually on Saturdays and Sundays and are like fairs where you can find cheap vegetables and fruits. There are other markets that are prepared food where you can find and enjoy food from around the world at acceptable price.

  Priceline pharmacy - Chemist warehouse

These two pharmacies / drug stores have many locations in different parts and can be purchased online. They handle good prices but Chemist Warehouse definitely handles better prices than all the others.

Kogan - JB HI-FI - Office works

They are technology stores where you can find everything from cell phones, computers, televisions, printers, technological accessories, cameras, etc.

In Office works you can also find everything related to stationery and office implements and it is also a good place to print documents and photos.

Second hand stores: op shops

They are stores where they sell second-hand items in very good condition that people give away for these causes. The money collected in these stores is used as income for non-profit entities and different campaigns.

These stores can be found throughout the city, you just need to search on Google Maps where the nearest one is. It depends on the store you can find clothes, accessories, books, shoes, pictures, home furniture, beds, etc.

There are many different Op Shops but the ones famous are are: Red Cross, Vinnies, Life Line, Salvos, RSPCA
