Mobile telecommunications in Iraq is mostly ruled by three major players: Zain Iraq, Asiacell and Korek Telecom. Korek is an Iraqi company, about 20% of which was acquired by the famous company Orange based in France. Ever since then, many investors started to bring their investment in Iraq in order to take advantage of the country's efforts to reconstruct its infrastructure. These companies are directly considered Korek's competitors in the country.

All telecommunication companies in Iraq are offering competitive services to attract more customers. Korek is not the only private mobile network in the area. As a result of this competition the economy of the country is improving. All these companies have put in efforts to create tens of thousands of jobs in the telecom sector. An impressive return on investment has been recorded for employees as well as shareholders of these telecom companies. Iraq has the highest mobile penetration rate in the world, which means people are ready to accept and adopt technological advances in the area. However, this may prove to have some unexpected results when it comes to society as a whole.

The social impact of mobile telecommunications in Iraq is also huge and quite noteworthy. More and more people are now using mobile services as compared to ten years ago. This has improved their quality of life to a great extent. They are now connected to the world and are able to get information on just about any topic by searching on the Internet. A number of educational and health programs have also been put forth as a result of this development. Since the region has a high percentage of youth, people who are in working age group, there is a need to further develop this sector and produce more jobs.

China is the biggest trade partner of the country and it is now playing a major role in Iraq's reconstruction by taking over its oil and gas fields. It has been observed that the socio-economic impact of the development of telecommunications industry in Iraq has been huge. A good number of people are now employed and the people of Iraq are now enjoying a progressive improvement in their quality of life.
