Rajasthan – A Perfect Winter Getaway from Delhi

The heat of Rajasthan abates come the winter months, making it the best time to visit the state. In fact, winter nights under the cloudless desert skies offer a cozy experience which can be enjoyed around a campfire to the tunes of folk music. Delhi is well connected to Rajasthan making it an ideal destination for a weekend or even more. One can hire self drive cars and head off into the open highways looking for adventure. Here are some of the best destinations in Rajasthan for a trip this winter.

Jaipur
Jaipur for a weekend would be a whirlwind itinerary. The old city around the Hawa Mahal, its markets and the resplendent City Palace are enough to keep the curious traveler busy for a day or two in Jaipur. Then the Royal Albert Hall museum with its myriad exhibitions warrants another half a day at least. Some of the attractions here include weapons used by the Rajput warriors of yore, an ancient Egypt section which includes a mummy, and a selection of paintings from the Mughal era.
Away from the city, the forts of Nahargarh and Jaigarh will captivate visitors with their scale, especially the more well-preserved latter which is above the beautiful Amer Palace. These sites will make anyone want to learn more about architecture and history.

Jodhpur
The Meharangarh Fort overlooks the blue city of Jodhpur like a sentinel that reminds visitors of Rajasthan’s glorious medieval past. Jodhpur is a gateway to the desert - in many ways different from the more cosmopolitan and modern state capital. In Jodhpur, one can wander around the old markets and watch traders come from the interior villages with their colorful crafts. People watching around the iconic Ghanta Ghar will give one a glimpse into the quintessential Indian bazaar.

Jaisalmer
A riveting drive west through the arid landscapes of Rajasthan brings travelers to Jaisalmer, a city in the heart of the Thar. One of the most prominent landmarks here is the Patwon ki Haveli, a museum where one can also admire the archetypal architectural style of Rajasthan. The story-book like setting of Jaisalmer with its sandstone structures and surrounded by the dunes provides a very nice backdrop for a getaway. The Jaisalmer Fort and the richly designed Jain temples it houses cannot be missed.

Self Drive – Best for Road Trips
Smart travelers prefer getting behind the wheel to enjoy a road trip to the vibrant desert state. There are so many sights on the way for detours and stops and the complete freedom that a rental gives allows this experience. When it comes to finding a car rental Delhi offers the best options. App-based platform Zoomcar offers the latest hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs at very affordable rates. 24/7 on-road support is another great assurance that ensures the long trip is also hassle-free. The privacy and extra space of a self drive rental also add to the comfort and convenience.

The forts and palaces, the caravans of camels, the distinctive cuisine, and the eclectic traditions – these form a cultural mosaic that needs to be experienced. Make the road trip plans for a memorable journey.
