Why Automate Cross-Browser Testing?

Din Kulkarni570 25-Sep-2019

In case you’ve never done cross-browser testing so far, you shouldn’t get too excited when reading this title. You can’t completely automate the entire process of cross-browser testing, however, there are some annoying and repetitive parts that can be dealt with by letting a specialized tool take care of things. We’ve compiled some of the reasons why it’s a great idea to learn how to do so and save a huge amount of time.

Save Time

Alright, this one was pretty obvious straight from the intro. So we’re not going to tell you how much time you’ll save by automatic some parts of the testing process. Instead, we’re going to tell you what you can do with the time you just saved. Well, for example, you could use it to go one more time over your code and discover any errors that might have slipped along the way. Another useful use of the time you save is to grab your phone and actually do a mobile test yourself since no matter how smart testing tools got these days, it’s always better if you can have a look yourself.

It Will Increase the Scope and Depth of the Testing

Like it or not, computers are far better than we are when it comes to repetitive tasks. No matter how determined you may be to see exactly how your app does in various testing environments, there’s a chance you’ll get bored or simply not notice something going wrong in the 200th test you run for the day. Leaving it in the “hands” of AI is a lot faster and you’ll be sure not to miss a thing. Even more than that, if you program a test with AI, you could ask it to do more complex testing that what you’d have done manually.

Of course, the reasons why automating parts of the cross-browser website testing sequence is a great idea can go on for ages. However, we wanted to focus on the ones that will make you a better developer and will deliver a better end result. We’d love to hear more about what parts of the testing you think are better to be automated?
