Few weeks before, the search engine Giant Google, announced to launch a low data consuming YouTube app, aiming on the areas that lack high speed data connectivity. The Asian countries like India who has a vast area under low connectivity can get full benefit if this app.                           

Google has done surveys in Asian countries and found that a large number of people are deprived of using YouTube for not having proper connectivity, or upgraded 3G/4G devices. They love to use YouTube and its amazing section of Bollywood hits, cricket highlights, comedy video blogs, and even wrestling. But when they try to discover the joys of YouTube, their experience is not great on steadier connections and less capable mobile phones. 

To solve these problems, YouTube has launched this new app YouTube-GO which is built from scratch to bring YouTube to the next level.        

I’ve downloaded the app from the Play Store, tried the app and found the following features:

1. It has a homepage with recommendations and trending videos as in the regular YouTube app. It also shows videos related to your liked videos and the videos of channels you subscribed for. 
2. There is an option for previewing the video, before you watch full video. You can click on the thumbnail to get a small preview of the video before you decide whether the video is worth to watch or not. 
3. We can choose the quality of the video when saving or streaming videos. However, HD quality isn’t provided here. Resolution up to 640p of videos can be watched and saved. It will also allow to choose the amount of data, you want to spend on a particular video. 
4. The coolest feature of this app is sharing the videos with nearby friends, without use of any data. With the use of Wi-Fi direct data can be transferred from Go app-to-GO app. Of course, the other person also has you’ll need to keep Bluetooth On to share videos.  
5. For India, it can be used in various Regional languages like Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati and Malayalam. 

Google announced this app in September 2016, but has taken a long time for launching it. Google says that, the time was consumed in expanded testing and refinement. This app is much lighter that the main YouTube app with just 8.5MB in size. It can also work fine on older Android version i.e. up-to Android 4.1(Jellybean). 

YouTube Go is a great initiative by Google. What remains to be seen is how the people are made aware of the existence of the services. One reason why everyone is aware of YouTube is because the service comes preloaded with every Android smartphone in the market. So, this new app YouTube Go should also come preloaded with smartphones, especially with the low cost smartphones. 

Our Verdict: The app is smooth on running and a must have app, if your data connectivity is slow. You will not realize about the low speed in streaming videos. Although, only beta version is launched now, means it may have bugs or unsuitability.
