Planning to buy a new home? Talked with the owner? Are you impressed with the location of the house? If the answer is ‘Yes’, Please wait. Maybe you forgot to check the plumbing of the house, which could be a real worry for you, if not checked.

Yes, when we try to buy a new home, we often overlook, plumbing issues. But this should not be. Plumbing and its fixtures are as important as the home is!

Plumbing is really important because it can cause you a lot of money and tension. For example, after buying the new home on the second day, you have seen that the flash is not working and water is coming up. What an awkward situation it would be? So, we suggest you to, don't buy a new home without calling a plumber first and check all of the plumbing’s; fixtures, to ensure that your mind will be in peace after buying.

Checklist for plumbing before buying a new home

This checklist could become handy if you are going to buy a new home. So, know what and how you can check everything is working or not.

  • Caulking: Check whether there is any caulking around the sink, bathtub, toilets, and other fixtures. If caulking present, there is possibly something went wrong!
  • Leaks: There may have some exposed pipes and fittings. Do not forget to check these pipes or fixtures for any leaking problem.
  • Toilets: This is one of the major concern. Check are they flushing properly? Taking too much time to flush properly? Is there any corrosion or any water marks?
  • Sinks: Open the tap for full and check water is passing regularly? If water is being stored in the sink, for a while, there may have some problem inside. If water bubbles come out during water passing, then there may have some problems too.
  • Showers, Tubs and Faucets: Turn on these things together. Check whether water is stagnant or not. Check for any leak of the valve. Having a single leak can cause you higher utility bills over time.
  • Washing Machine Hoses: Check for leaking in washing machine hose pipes. Usually they are made of reinforced rubber which may lose its resiliency and become plastic in some regions. So, before confirming buying check resiliency, corrosion, leak etc.
  • Water Heater: This one is as important like the toilet! Heated water helps in reaction between elements and therefore there is high chance of accumulating debris on the surface of the pipes. Turn on the heater, let water pass out, if it drains slowly; assume that the pipe may be narrowed due to accumulation of debris in its inner surface.

Checking the plumbing is one of the tasks that we should investigate before buying a new home. But, unfortunately, we often forget to check these things and later the new home owner needs to suffer from water congestion, clogging, fixture failure etc. So ‘think before you act’ and be a proud owner of a new home that gives peace.
