As the name suggests, LED grow lights are lighting objects that takes the use of LED chips to promote the growth of plants in an efficient and modern way. The lights that are produced by them are as efficient as the rays from the sun.

This makes it important for indoor vegetation. They are the future of agriculture. Not only they are cheap but they are much more beneficial than any of the traditional lighting option in the market. So, after research we found few best cheap LED grow lights example which works very well.

Working Of LED Grow Lights:

LEDs or Light Emitting Diode are miniature electronic devices that are made up of two types of semiconductor material, one that carry positive charge, known as holes and the other one with a negative charge known as electrons. When a potential difference is created in an LED, the current starts to pass through it. It leads to the collision of the holes and the electrons and thus releases energy in the form of photons called light quanta.

This whole process is called recombination. When LEDs were invented it used to give low output and the choice of colors was limited but the modern ones are highly bright with several combinations of colors in the range of ultraviolet, infrared and visible spectrum.

Important Factors in LED Grow Lights:

The LED grow lights come in different sizes and shape. Since one has got the option to choose the type of LED grow lights, it is very important to keep some factors in mind while choosing them.

Factors are listed below:

● Wavelength:

LED grow lights can emit a vast range of lights with different wavelength. Plants require different wavelength of light at different stages of their growth. Not only this but different plants require different wavelength of light. For example, you cannot use the same wavelength of light to grow a flower and a tomato. It is advisable that select the LED grow lights keeping in mind the stimulation required for the plant.

You have also got an option to select either a full spectrum LED grow light or one that can be adjusted. The full spectrum LED grow light can emit light of all wavelengths that are emitted from the sun. While the adjustable LED grow light can be adjusted to emit a different wavelength of lights.

● Planting Area’s size:

The number of lights needed is decided by the size of the planting area. For example, if you are planting high light-dependent plants like tomatoes then you need lights which consume 32 watts per square foot. On the other hand, if you are growing plant which does not require much light like lettuce then you need lights which take 11 to 18 watts per square foot.

● Heat Output:

LED grow lights are generally placed very much near to the plant. Thus, if it emits a large amount of heat then it may harm the plant. Grow lights which generated less amount of heat are the best one to use. There is no harm if they are mounted at close proximity with plants. Using a low heat output lamp is also beneficial as it takes a longer time to burn and need not to be replaced frequently.

Benefits of LED Grow Lights:

Earlier LED technology was considered cost-inefficient and impractical. But due to the advent of modern technology the LED grow light rectified its cons and boons agriculture with several advantages.

When compared with traditional lightings i.e. HPS (high-pressure sodium) system it is observed that the LEDs wins the game in every aspect be it environment friendliness, quality of plants, energy efficiency and a lot more.

Let’s see some of its revolutionary advantages:

● Long Lifespan: The lifespan of LEDs is much more than the HPS light. For the comparison sake, LEDs may last for 8 years (50,000 hours of use) while the HPS last for 1 year.

● Less Electric Consumption: The LEDs consume only 50 percent of the energy that is taken by the HPS lamps. It is also estimated that future LEDs will consume much lesser than that.

● Compact and convenient: The LED grow lights can be mounted much nearer to the plants. It needs not to be much high or wide.

● Safety First: It is much safer to use LEDs as they do not get much warmer. But the HPS lamps conducts conventional mode of heat.

● Healthy Crop: Several experiments have shown that crops grown with the LED grow lights are much bigger and healthier than that grown by the HPS lights. Additional the LEDs promotes faster growth of the plants.

● Dimming: LED grow lights can also be made to glow dim if required using an app or a remote while the HPS lamps use the full light intensity.

● Safe for Environment: Ultraviolet light can be easily added to the LED and it also produces less heat, thus mold and bacteria will grow less in it and there will be less use of pesticides and other environment harming insecticides.
