# Samsung, Tesla about to collaborate for Self-driving Chips

The South Korean [tech](https://www.mindstick.com/services/technologies) giant, Samsung, and the billionaire vehicle company, Tesla Motors are holding talks about transforming the vehicle sector completely. If their conversations succeed, they would collaborate to build the next-gen self-driving chips. Interestingly, these chips would be based on **Samsung’s 7-nanometer** chip process. The chip design and prototype have been discussed by both parties repeatedly for Tesla's upcoming **Hardware 4 self-driving computation.**

EVs are important from the [environmental](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/52080/who-has-been-awarded-the-2019-goldman-environmental-prize) perspective and this is a fact. Most countries are making lithium-ion batteries or switching to other countries for the same. But regardless of the location, they are an important agenda behind building a successful [sustainable development](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23214/great-ways-for-sustainable-development) goal.

Samsung already produces the 7-nm chip in Tesla’s Hardware 3 but if the order proceeds it will make chips in its production process. These self-driving chips would make it easier to manufacture more self-driving vehicles. Let’s hope the process of [manufacturing](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167329/improving-productivity-within-the-manufacturing-industry) & production becomes easy for Tesla.

Samsung is a considerable partner to the company and it already has a 17.3 percent market share in the chip manufacturing industry.
