# Sony puts the spotlight on camera upgrades with Xperia 1 VIII launch

Sony has officially unveiled the **Xperia 1 VIII**, marking a monumental shift in its flagship strategy by abandoning its traditional continuous optical zoom to prioritize pure image quality.

The phone officially breaks away from Sony’s signature vertical camera strip, moving to a modern **square rear camera island**.
