# Instagram Testing Picture-in-Picture Mode for Reels, Similar to YouTube

[Instagram](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/303777/how-to-use-instagram-for-promotion-purposes) is now experimenting with a Picture-in-Picture mode of Reels, which is inspired by the popular mode of [YouTube](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4396/youtube-reportedly-testing-netflix-style-redesign-to-compete-with-prime-video). This addition will allow people to keep watching Reels in a small floating display as they carry on with other activities in their device. The feature revolves around [convenience](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/33530/convenience-vs-init-method-memory-usage) and is designed to enhance the [engagement](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/54969/how-technology-is-helping-employee-engagement) level by enabling continuous viewing of video.

## Highlights:

- Instagram introduces [Picture-in-Picture mode](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3333/google-is-developing-an-automatic-picture-in-picture-mode-for-chrome-s-youtube) for Reels.
- Users can watch Reels while multitasking.
- The feature is similar to YouTube’s PiP.
- Testing is limited to selected users.
- Wider release may follow after testing.

Picture-in-Picture Reel mode helps users to multitask. It also enables the videos to continue playing even while switching between [applications](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12847/how-to-choose-the-right-ethernet-cable-for-industrial-applications) or responding to messages. It is also meant to ensure that users stay longer on Reels without struggling to take a break. Instagram has taken a definite step toward enhancing the viewing experience.

This update is currently under trial among a few users. Instagram has not specified the official date of release, but, by conducting a test, the platform will be able to see how its users react and which problems appear. After [optimization](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85459/what-is-conversion-rate-optimization-and-how-to-get-started), the feature may be promoted at a larger scale, which will enhance the value of using the [application](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12824/calculator-application-in-android) on a daily basis.

When fully implemented, the Picture-in-Picture mode will be beneficial to those users who like doing two or more things at a time. It will also empower the greater plan of Instagram to enhance Reels as a top contender of [short-form video](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/304349/short-form-videos-have-become-dominant-how). The increased flexibility and easier [functionality](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/136/using-watermark-functionality-in-textbox-by-jquery) of Instagram should help the company keep its users and stay relevant in the rapidly developing video market.
