The result that can be achieved by using this access is the ability to summarize chat in Gemini. The user has the control, and they can turn this permission off any time they want. ## Highlights: - Gemini requires explicit user permission to connect with WhatsApp. - This access is often enabled by default during Gemini setup. - Accessed chats are processed solely for requested [Gemini features](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4443/google-may-introduce-new-gemini-features-to-analyze-your-screen-and-camera-view). - Users can disable this integration anytime via device settings. - Access occurs primarily during active user interaction with Gemini features. The Gemini [data access](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/301551/risks-and-challenges-of-data-access-and-sharing) is enabled when the users give Gemini permission to use the [Android](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4578/gemini-ai-now-available-in-google-docs-on-android-devices-how-users-can-benefit) obligatory option of ascertaining the [Notification](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/205/property-notification-in-c-sharp) access in the recently installed settings. This is the permission that will enable Gemini to read WhatsApp messages as well as any other notification. In the absence of such [authorization](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/177/authentication-and-authorization-in-asp-dot-net), Gemini is not able to handle WhatsApp messages. According to Google, this access to Gemini data can only be to drive certain, user-generated Gemini [capabilities](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/490/explain-the-concepts-and-capabilities-of-assembly-in-dot-net) that access chat content, e.g., to drive summarization. The company claims that personalized [advertising](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13080/wikipedia-the-most-powerful-advertising-platform-of-the-digital-age) is not made based on the accessed messages privately. The allowance stands until it is prohibited. In order to prevent Gemini data access, go to Android Settings > Apps > Gemini > Notifications > Notification access and turn off the access to Gemini. Otherwise, permission can be handled at Settings > Apps > Special app access > Notification access.
