# Apple uses Google's chip to train AI models, Report says

In recent [news](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/news), it has been revealed by the Global [tech](https://www.mindstick.com/services/technologies) brand Apple that it will use Google’s chip for its training of AI models that underpin **[Apple intelligence](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4062/ios-18-1-with-apple-intelligence-your-guide-to-downloading-in-india)**. The hardware-making giant revealed the news on Monday in which it shared that two key parts of its AI system pertained to processors designed by Google.

The company has given information about the news that it is using two different versions of Google’s base-grown tensor [processing](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/254/background-processing-in-android) units (TPUs) that are indulged in large clusters of chips. The company has also revealed that it has used 248 of the TPUv5p chips for the training purposes of its iPhones and some other devices and 8,192 TPUv4 processors for its servers.

## Highlights

- Currently Nvidia owns around 80% of the chip market
- Apple already announced of using new [AI tools](https://www.mindstick.com/services/ai-tools-integration) at its WWDC
- Apple used Google’s 2048 TPUv5p and 8192 TPUv4 processors

The [iPhone maker](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/86267/tata-group-is-becoming-the-indian-iphone-maker-soon) Apple also released a preview of its awaited Apple Intelligence system.

In the chip-making sector, some of the names are so popular and [one of them](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/47593/what-are-the-prevalent-water-proofing-systems-write-a-short-notes-on-any-one-of-them) is Nvidia which holds around 80% of the [AI chip](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3857/intel-unveils-latest-ai-chip-gaudi-3) market. The company has expensive **graphics processing units** (GPUs) that have been in high demand since the AI has been in surge.

Nowadays companies are more focused on making their chip intelligence including Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon. All these tech giants of the world are looking to make their own AI chips given the cost of [AI infrastructure](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4026/microsoft-and-blackrock-initiate-funds-of-430-billion-for-ai-infrastructure) training massive AI models require.

Also, Google only allows its TPUs through their [Google Cloud](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/336387/what-is-the-google-cloud-certification-2024-is-it-worth) Platform which means the users have to build the software on Google Cloud whenever they feel the need to use the chips.

As per the reports and research it also has been assumed that it would also be possible to build even larger and more complex models with Google chips aside from the ones mentioned.
