# OpenAI inks deal to bring Reddit content to ChatGPT

Just like Reddit did with Google when it previously signed a $60 million contract, OpenAI has [signed an agreement](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/95885/india-signed-an-agreement-with-the-un-world-food-program-for-the-distribution-of-wheat-to-which-country) to access real-time material through Reddit's data API. According to media reports, this cooperation intends to enable Reddit to roll out new AI-driven features for its users and moderators by utilizing OpenAI's extensively utilized language models.

## Highlights:

- OpenAI signed a deal to access Reddit's real-time data via API for [developing AI](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/35870/what-are-some-risks-of-developing-ai) features.
- The collaboration includes advertising efforts despite past user concerns about API fees.
- Reddit CEO Steve Huffman highlighted the partnership's benefits for enhancing [user experience](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12731/the-importance-of-feedback-to-the-user-experience) and connectivity.

Furthermore, [OpenAI](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/303602/build-your-ai-army-mastering-openai-s-tools-for-custom-agent-creation) has promised to collaborate with Reddit on advertising. Reddit users have previously expressed [concerns regarding](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/101595/what-are-the-main-concerns-regarding-climate-change-in-the-usa) changes to the platform's API fees and management. Users attempted to remove their posts from the current OpenAI and [Stack Overflow](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/159521/describe-how-you-might-encounter-a-stack-overflow-error-and-ways-to-avoid-it) partnership, which drew criticism as well.

It was made clear that the collaboration was headed by OpenAI's COO and authorized by its independent board, despite the fact that CEO [Sam Altman](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4040/openai-board-discusses-ceo-sam-altman-s-equity-compensation) of OpenAI's status as a stakeholder on Reddit was made public.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman applauded the deal, pointing out that combining Reddit with ChatGPT shows their dedication to a connected internet and helps users find relevant material. However, Reddit has already expressed hostility towards companies who use its data to train [AI models](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/160780/how-does-transfer-learning-contribute-to-the-development-and-efficiency-of-generative-ai-models), threatening to prevent Google web crawlers from accessing the site.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman was cited by [news](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/news) agency AFP in a joint statement as saying, "Reddit has grown into one of the internet's biggest open archives of genuine, relevant, and always up to date conversations between people about anything and everything."

"Including it in [ChatGPT](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3884/chatgpt-gets-the-memory-feature) upholds our faith in a connected internet, lets people find more of things they're looking for, and helps fresh audiences find community on Reddit," Huffman said.

Thousands of "subreddits"—forums on a wide range of topics that are controlled by their creators—are how Reddit functions.
