# Twitter on track, suspended suspicious accounts

**Twitter** partially at Govt's beck and call-how? Late but not too late, it mended its mistake by **removing over 500** **accounts** for violating its rules and spreading [misinformation](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/304586/the-role-of-advertisement-to-spread-misinformation) on **Farmer's protest**. Accounts of [civil society](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/98171/what-corrodes-civil-society) activists, politicians, and media are still there though.

Previously, the **[Indian Government](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/84685/why-indian-government-should-ban-madarsa-to-trained-jihadis)** required [**Twitter**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/340/twitter-ceo-likes-rihanna-s-tweets-supporting-farmers-protest-is-a-new-controversy) to take [action against](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115908/is-trump-planning-military-action-against-india) the accounts falling under misguiding source for the users. But the platform refused to do so, and the Ministry of [Electronics and Information](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/45175/who-is-the-current-minister-of-law-and-justice-and-minister-of-electronics-and-information-technology-ministry-of-india) Technology and other organizations moved to a made-in India (**Atmanirbhar Bharat**) microblogging platform, **Koo.**

Suspension of over 500 accounts following Govt's guidelines state the platform's realization of its action. For not withholding accounts of civil society activists, politicians, and media, the reason was stated that a “***violation of [fundamental right](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81335/reservation-is-not-a-fundamental-right-supreme-court) to free expression***," guaranteed by the constitution.

Twitter further opposing the action violating its user's fundamental [right to free](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/35809/which-amendment-guarantees-the-right-to-free-speech) expression added in a [blog](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/blog) post that it does not believe that the actions it was directed to take sticks to the Indian law and they will continue to advocate for the following right.

Twitter also cleared that it will actively take steps to reduce the visibility of the hashtags that may incorporate harmful thoughts and will prohibit its trending on the site appearing as recommended Search terms.

#### Government's Claim

Government claiming these accounts to be operated by foreign territories and provoking misinformation regarding the domestic matter, handed over a list of 257 URLs and one hashtag to get blocked as per the relevant legal section and also warned of penal actions for non-compliance previously.
