# Study Finds AI's Potential in Enhancing Wikipedia's Accuracy and Citations Completeness

[.Wikipedia](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167712/how-to-successfully-create-wikipedia-company-page) is a source of information for many of us, but it is difficult to analyze the [credibility](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/82003/contribution-of-news-channels-in-destroying-credibility-of-media-is-historic) of information. [Artificial Intelligence(AI)](https://www.mindstick.com/services/artificial-intelligence) can assist in wiping up inaccurate and incomplete references on Wikipedia which a new study suggests

- **AI can automate the [process of analyzing](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/157919/describe-the-process-of-analyzing-the-running-time-of-an-algorithm-using-big-o-notation) the sources cited on Wikipedia pages.**
- **AI can suggest [alternatives](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/370/what-are-some-alternatives-to-inheritance) for references that don't support the claim made in the article.**
- **In a study, AI was able to identify inaccurate references in almost 50% of cases.**

The study, published in [Nature Machine Intelligence](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/84717/artificial-intelligence-examines-cell-movement-under-a-microscope), was conducted by [researchers](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1544/mars-looks-more-seismically-active-than-before-thought-said-researchers) at Samaya AI, a London-based company. The researchers developed a [neural network](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/303767/how-neural-networks-and-new-antibiotics-are-connected) called SIDE, which can automate the process of analyzing the sources cited on Wikipedia pages. SIDE is trained on a [database](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12226/use-of-database-in-sencha-extjs-and-insert-record-from-user-form-using-ajax) of good references on the website.

The researchers tested SIDE on a set of Wikipedia [articles](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12872/how-to-write-articles-of-50-and-more-a-day-quick-and-easy) and found that it was able to identify inaccurate references in almost 50% of cases. SIDE was also able to suggest alternatives for references that didn't support the claim made in the article.

The researchers then showed the results of SIDE's analysis to a group of Wikipedia users. The users said that they were satisfied with the references made by AI in 21% of cases. In 10% of cases, the users said that they preferred the existing sources. The rest of the users did not have any preference.

The study suggests that AI can be a valuable tool for cleaning up inaccurate and incomplete references on Wikipedia. However, it is important to note that AI is not perfect and that human oversight is still required.
