# Facebook is planning another round of layoffs, and staff in this division may be let go today.

Facebook's parent company, Meta, is set to announce the [layoff of employees](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/99229/what-caused-the-layoff-of-employees-in-the-it-sector) in its Reality Labs division's silicon unit, focusing on metaverse development. The announcement will be made publicly later today. Meta, the [tech](https://www.mindstick.com/services/technologies) giant, is reportedly undergoing significant layoffs to streamline its augmented and [virtual reality](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12735/5-types-of-virtual-reality-that-will-affect-the-future) (AR) [product development](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12220/software-product-development-comparative-buisness-strategies-between-america-india). The company's FAST unit, which designs custom chips for AR/VR devices, is a key area of concern. The [restructuring](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4616/microsoft-cuts-9-000-jobs-amid-restructuring-drive) was announced after a new executive was appointed to lead the division. Meta has also announced the Quest 3 headset and is working on advanced [AR glasses](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4031/meta-to-unveil-new-ar-glasses-at-connect-event) and smartwatches. The first version of these products is expected to be completed next year, but may not be widely available to consumers at first. Most layoffs are expected to occur in spring, with some extending through the year's end in limited cases.
