# WhatsApp may eventually allow users to deactivate channels automatically.

WhatsApp, a [messaging](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2265/new-eu-law-could-open-up-messaging-and-app-buying) [platform](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13080/wikipedia-the-most-powerful-advertising-platform-of-the-digital-age) owned by Meta, has introduced the Channels feature, allowing users to connect with celebrities and other known individuals. The platform has [recently launched](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/62201/which-country-has-recently-launched-soyuz-carrier-rocket-with-33-satellites) an update for Android users, allowing users to [automatically remove](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/12916/automatically-remove-html-comments-in-release-mode) channel media from their devices. This feature is expected to be available in a future update of the app, as it allows users to stay in touch with celebrities and other known people. This move follows the success of PM [Narendra Modi](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/2960/pm-narendra-modi-speaks-to-palestinian-president)'s Channel, which received millions of subscribers within a week.

WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature called "Channel Settings" that allows users to automatically remove [images and videos](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/158315/how-do-you-create-responsive-images-and-videos-using-bootstrap-classes) from their devices. Currently, WhatsApp cannot delete channel media from users' devices due to the default setting of "Never," which could lead to storage issues and excessive media on devices over time.

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that allows users to control the duration of media on their devices. This will improve the overall WhatsApp [experience](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12276/how-timely-order-deliveries-can-improve-customer-experience) by eliminating the need to manually manage channel media. The [automatic](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/145518/what-automatic-repeat-request-arq) option is expected to be available in a future update. Deleted media will be downloaded when the user opens the channel again. This feature is an individual setting that allows users to disable it for one channel while keeping it active for another.
