According to the lawsuit, these corporations used their publications to develop [generative](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/305715/it-leaders-see-generative-ai-as-a-game-changer-how) [artificial intelligence](https://www.mindstick.com/services/artificial-intelligence) [(AI)](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3290/coforge-eyeing-ai-driven-sprint-to-2-billion-mark-ceo-sudhir-singh) models. More authors have now joined these authors in taking legal [action against](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115908/is-trump-planning-military-action-against-india) these [technology](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13005/the-functional-aspects-of-laser-technology) businesses. According to The Verge, the Authors Guild and 17 well-known authors, including Jonathan Franzen, John Grisham, Jodi Picoult, and George R.R. Martin, the creator of the blockbuster online series [Game of Thrones](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/23073/jon-snow-watch-game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-1-online-got-s08e01), have joined the complaint. The new case was filed in the Southern District of New York, and the plaintiffs intend to classify it as a class action. ## What the authors think The lawsuit claims that OpenAI "copied plaintiffs' works wholesale, without [permission](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/159434/linux-service-permission-denied-error-adjust-permissions) or consideration" and incorporated the copyrighted [materials](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/301857/how-materials-work-in-space-to-make-them-better-on-earth) in its big [language](https://www.mindstick.com/startup/28/preply-the-fast-growing-platform-transforming-language-learning) models. According to the lawsuit, "these authors' livelihoods are derived from the works they create."
