# Chandrayaan-3 Has Covered About Two-Thirds of Distance to the Moon

India's third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, has covered about two-thirds of the [distance](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/12028/what-distance-learning-is-not) to the [moon](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/1271/interesting-facts-about-the-moon). The spacecraft was launched on July 14, 2023, and is expected to enter lunar orbit on August 5.

The spacecraft is carrying a lander and a rover. The lander will attempt to land on the lunar surface in the [South Pole](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3746/shrinking-of-moon-is-causing-the-moonquakes-near-the-south-pole) region, which is a region that has not been explored by any other spacecraft. The rover will then [explore](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85472/man-of-iron-vallabhbhai-patel-explore-it-here) the lunar surface for up to 14 days.

Chandrayaan-3 is a significant mission for India, as it will be the first time that the country has attempted to land a spacecraft on the lunar surface since Chandrayaan-2 in 2019. The [success](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12957/best-tips-to-make-your-ghostwriting-experience-a-success) of Chandrayaan-3 would be a [major achievement](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/40476/mars-mission-india-s-major-achievement) for India's space program and would help to put the country in the forefront of [lunar exploration](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115557/how-did-the-soviet-union-s-luna-program-pave-the-way-for-future-lunar-exploration-missions).

The spacecraft has been performing well so far. It has successfully completed all of its major milestones, including the Trans-Lunar Injection (TLI) maneuver on August 1. The TLI maneuver put the spacecraft on a trajectory that will take it to the moon.

The next major [milestone](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/80656/will-chandrayaan-3-be-a-milestone-for-isro) for Chandrayaan-3 is the Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) maneuver. The LOI maneuver will be performed on August 5. The LOI maneuver will insert the spacecraft into a lunar orbit.

Once the spacecraft is in [lunar orbit](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2131/what-exactly-is-the-man-in-the-moon-and-how-did-it-come-to-be), it will undergo a series of tests to ensure that it is ready for the landing. The landing is scheduled to take place on August 9.

The success of Chandrayaan-3 would be a major achievement for India's space program. It would put the country in the forefront of lunar exploration and would help to pave the way for future [missions](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85276/space-exploration-latest-missions-and-discoveries) to the moon.

Here are some of the key milestones that Chandrayaan-3 has already achieved:

- Launch on July 14, 2023
- Trans-Lunar Injection on August 1
- Lunar Orbit Injection (scheduled for August 5)
- Landing on the lunar surface (scheduled for August 9)

The success of Chandrayaan-3 would be a major achievement for India's space program and would help to put the country in the forefront of lunar exploration. I will be following the mission closely and will provide updates as they become available.
