# Microsoft to Keep ‘Call of Duty’ on PlayStation, Signs 10-Year Deal with Sony

## July 18, 2023

In a move that will likely please fans of both [Call of Duty and PlayStation](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3105/microsoft-ceo-says-exclusive-activision-games-make-no-strategic-sense), Microsoft has announced that it has signed a 10-year deal with Sony to keep the popular first-person shooter franchise on PlayStation consoles.

The deal comes after [Microsoft's acquisition](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3180/microsoft-activision-merger-to-be-appealed-in-the-us) of Activision Blizzard, which [raised concerns](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/42224/what-happened-at-abu-ghraib-and-guantanamo-that-raised-concerns-around-the-world-about-u-s-actions) that Call of Duty would become an Xbox exclusive. However, Microsoft has said that it is committed to keeping Call of Duty available on multiple platforms, and this deal is a significant step in that direction.

Under the terms of the deal, Call of Duty games will continue to be released on PlayStation consoles for the next 10 years. This includes both new games and future installments in the Call of Duty franchise.

The deal is a major win for Sony, which has been struggling to compete with Microsoft in the console wars. Call of Duty is one of the most popular [video game](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11565/the-state-of-the-video-game-industry-in-2017) franchises in the world, and its continued availability on PlayStation will help to ensure that the console remains a major player in the [gaming industry](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/107354/how-does-it-benefit-the-gaming-industry).

The deal is also a win for gamers, who will be able to continue playing Call of Duty on the platform of their choice. This is especially important for fans who have invested heavily in PlayStation consoles and peripherals.

The deal is still subject to regulatory approval, but it is expected to be finalized in the coming months.

## In a statement, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, said:

"We are committed to ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on PlayStation consoles. We believe that this is in the best interests of our players, and we look forward to continuing to work with Sony to bring the franchise to their fans."
