# India launches historic Chandrayaan-3 mission.

**Sriharikota, India** - India [successfully launched](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2373/skyroot-aerospace-successfully-launched-vikram-s-india-s-first-private-rocket-into-space) its third lunar [exploration mission](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115565/what-new-space-exploration-mission-did-nasa-announce-in-mid-2025), Chandrayaan-3, on Thursday, July 14. The mission, which was launched from the [Satish Dhawan](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/52126/where-is-satish-dhawan-space-research-centre-in-india) [Space Centre](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94137/which-is-the-only-indian-island-where-isro-has-set-up-a-space-centre) in Sriharikota, is a follow-up to the [Chandrayaan-2 mission,](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/72284/what-is-the-name-of-the-lander-of-the-chandrayaan-2-mission) which successfully orbited the moon in 2019 but failed to land its lander and rover.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission consists of a lander and the Pragyan rover, which is similar to the one that was part of the Chandrayaan-2 mission. The Chandrayaan-3 mission is expected to take nearly 42 days to complete its journey to the moon. The lander is scheduled to land on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023.
