# ISRO To Launch Chandrayaan-3 Between 13 & 19 July

The [Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85209/a-closer-look-at-the-obstacles-and-difficulties-that-isro-has-to-overcome) has announced that the launch of Chandrayaan-3, India's third [lunar mission](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85393/india-to-join-nasa-lunar-mission-ahead-of-pm-modi-visit), is scheduled to take place between July 13 and 19. The mission will be launched from the [Satish Dhawan](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/52126/where-is-satish-dhawan-space-research-centre-in-india) Space Centre in Sriharikota, [Andhra Pradesh](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/62145/who-has-sworn-in-as-the-chief-minister-of-andhra-pradesh).

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up to the Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 missions, which both successfully orbited and explored the moon. The mission's [primary objective](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/100704/what-s-the-primary-objective-in-the-game-of-chess) is to soft-land a lander and rover on the lunar surface. The lander will be named Vikram, after Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai, the [father of the Indian](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/98282/why-is-b-r-amberkar-called-the-father-of-the-indian-constitution) Space Programme. The rover will be named Pragyan, which means "wisdom" in Sanskrit.

The mission will also carry a number of [scientific instruments](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94069/what-are-the-scientific-instruments-onboard-chandrayaan-1), including a camera, a spectrometer, and a magnetometer. These instruments will be used to study the lunar surface, atmosphere, and gravity field.
