# ChatGPT- related malware in on the rise, Says Meta

[Facebook owner Meta](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2769/india-is-one-of-the-top-three-countries-for-facebook-user-growth) reveal that it had disclosed malware purveyors leveraging public interest in ChatGPT to attract users for downloading malicious apps and browser extensions, which seems with the phenomenon of [cryptocurrency](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/327746/effective-ways-to-earn-in-cryptocurrency) scams.

In a report, the company has reported above 10 families of such malware and more than 1000 links with malicious nature that were promoted as tools featuring the popular artificial intelligence-powered chatbot.

Also in the majority of cases, the malware delivered working ChatGPT functionality alongside abusive files, told by the company.

“[ChatGPT](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2819/as-chatgpt-s-popularity-explodes-u-s-lawmakers-take-an-interest) is the new crypto,” said Meta Chief [Information Security](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/246009/information-security-is-not-information-technology) Officer Guy Rosen while speaking at a press conference on the briefing on the report.

They further added that the company was preparing its defenses for several highly potential cases of abuse linked to generative AI technologies like ChatGPT, which has the ability to generate quick human-like text, music, and art.

Law officials and regulators have flagged the tools as possible to make [online misinformation](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114434/can-social-media-platforms-effectively-combat-online-misinformation-without-censorship) campaigns easier to propagate.

The executive said it was still early, though Rosen said he expected “bad actors” to use the technologies to “try to speed up and perhaps scale up” some activities.
