# Elon Musk "learned a lot" from SpaceX Starship Explosion

Elon Musk “Learned a Lot” from an explosion in the [SpaceX Starship](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2800/spacex-conducts-a-starship-booster-test-as-a-significant-first-orbital-launch) minutes after liftoff in an uncrewed test flight from South Texas on Thursday. Basically, the mission was designed to take humans to the moon and Mars.

This was the first [experience](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12276/how-timely-order-deliveries-can-improve-customer-experience) for the company’s new Super Heavy rocket to test, and the maiden launch ever for the down-stage booster, which has been claimed to be the most powerful [launch vehicle](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/97969/kslv-ii-nuri-rocket-is-the-first-domestically-produced-space-launch-vehicle-of-which-country) on earth.

Despite the unfulfillment of the mission, it achieved the [primary objective](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/100704/what-s-the-primary-objective-in-the-game-of-chess) of receiving the new vehicle off the ground at liftoff even after failing some of the engines. Officials of SpaceX were in deep sorrow for the failure of the mission but the mission actually achieved the initial objective of the launch.

As per the launch information, the initial objective was to enter into space at least 90 miles (150 km) above the surface of Earth before coming into the [atmosphere](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2058/robin-wordsworth-re-creates-the-atmosphere-of-ancient-mars) and plunging into the Pacific near Hawaii.

In a statement, [SpaceX](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2579/elon-musk-s-spacex-will-enable-direct-smartphone-connections-to-starlink-broadband) after the launch of the spacecraft said “experienced multiple engines out” during its ascent, then added “lost altitude and began to tumble,” before the “flight termination system was condemned on both the booster and the ship.”

The incident was also captured by NASA and also through a tweet it congratulated by saying “Every great achievement [throughout history](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114613/what-role-do-rivers-play-in-global-trade-and-transportation-throughout-history) has demanded some level of [calculated](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/31699/what-is-sensex-and-how-it-is-calculated) risk because with great risk comes with great reward.”

[Elon Musk takes Twitter](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2959/elon-musk-owned-twitter-comes-up-witht-the-latest-user-content-subscription), his own platform to express his feeling about the explosion and the outcomes and expectations. He says-

*“Congrats @SpaceX team on an exciting test launch of Starship! Learned a lot for next test launch,”*
