# Microsoft Teams will get significant performance enhancements next month.

Next month, Microsoft plans to release a new version of Microsoft Teams that has been completely rewritten from the bottom up to significantly increase the number of system resources it uses on personal computers and laptops.

The software giant Microsoft has just begun testing this new Teams client on a big scale internally.

Microsoft has worked hard on this new Teams client for many years. Internally, it has been [referred to as](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39930/at-the-turn-of-the-century-widespread-panic-occurred-that-at-midnight-all-computers-would-reset-to-zero-and-life-as-we-knew-it-would-cease-to-exist-what-was-this-doomsday-theory-commonly-referred-to-as) Microsoft Teams 2.0 or 2.1. The application should consume around fifty percent less memory, place a lower burden on the [central processing](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/102430/explain-the-significance-of-a-computer-s-central-processing-unit-cpu) unit (CPU), and improve [laptop battery](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/102403/can-you-detail-the-functions-of-a-laptop-battery) life.

Businesses that use Teams have been using an [older version](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94514/how-can-i-continue-using-an-older-version-of-whatsapp-without-updating-it) of the Teams client due to the amount of work required for Microsoft to rebuild the client. While some of this early work has been shipped by Microsoft as part of the built-in Teams experience for consumers in Windows 11, this is not true for businesses.

With the release of this new app, Microsoft Teams will transition away from the Electron technology and instead use the Edge Webview2 platform. Microsoft has also migrated to React, a Javascript library, which will offer additional [user interface](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/22909/user-interface-objects-in-cocoa) improvements for Teams in the coming months. This move was made in preparation for the move to React.

Rish Tandon, a former head of Microsoft Teams engineering, stated that the company's new [architecture](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/249193/top-5-reasons-to-pursue-architecture) would be essential for future improvements to Microsoft Teams in a Twitter thread that detailed the initial improvements to Microsoft Teams that will be included in Windows 11 in 2021.

Tandon explained that with this architecture, the company could more easily add support for [multiple accounts](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/106673/how-to-manage-multiple-accounts) and work-life scenarios, release predictability, and scale up for the client. We may still have a long way to go, but with Windows 11, we have made some significant advances.

Because of the enhancements, Teams should open more quickly or provide a sense of responsiveness whether you are presenting in a meeting or replying to communications.

The new Teams app should address many criticisms and complaints regarding Teams' performance, particularly on more mature laptops.

A preview version of Microsoft's upcoming app for Teams is scheduled to be distributed towards the end of March, according to the company's current plans. This version will include a toggle allowing users to revert to the previous version of the app [if necessary](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/23229/in-python-check-if-a-directory-exists-and-create-it-if-necessary).
