# Designers test out a new assistant in Hong Kong.

Attendees at the Fashion X AI presentation in Hong Kong detected something 'alien' about the new garments being shown on the event's small runway, although the creations weren't fully human.

With the aid of the [artificial intelligence](https://www.mindstick.com/services/artificial-intelligence) programme AiDA, which stands for 'AI-based [Interactive](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/38931/who-has-won-the-2016-fifa-interactive-world-cup-fiwc) Design Assistant,' the show highlighted more than 80 costumes from 14 different designers. [Researchers](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1544/mars-looks-more-seismically-active-than-before-thought-said-researchers) and PhD candidates at the AiDLab in Hong Kong created the programme. Models paraded before a line of critics and fashion designers while wearing blue masks and clothes that ranged from down jackets to [transparent](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/1784/wpf-webbrowser-on-transparent-window) skirts.

At the event on December 19, Cynthia Tse, an attendee, remarked that she felt as though she were seeing the future of fashion. **The software, according to Calvin Wong, CEO of AiDLab, was developed as a 'supporting tool' for designers.**\
According to Wong, AIDA serves as a fashion designer's assistant to facilitate collaboration. AI and designers can collaborate to create the final collection.

According to Wong, the AiDA system is supported by [**AI technologies**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2089/artificial-intelligence-reduces-a-100-000-equation-quantum-physics-problem-to-only-four-equations) for picture production, detection, and recognition. The software's algorithm generates blueprints that designers may modify and personalise by uploading rough sketches, materials, and colour palettes to a virtual mood board.

According to Wong, the technology can manufacture a dozen fashion templates in less than 10 seconds, saving designers valuable time. **Mountain Yam, a fashion designer located in Hong Kong, has been using AiDA for the past [six months](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11970/how-to-become-a-successful-blockchain-developer-in-just-six-months) and claims that it has not only inspired him but also saved him time.**

As she noted that they weren't as as dramatic as the futuristic [collections](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12458/what-are-collections-in-c-sharp) she had helped design when she first began her profession, fashion designer Yulia Tlili expressed her disappointment that the [**AI designs**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2089/artificial-intelligence-reduces-a-100-000-equation-quantum-physics-problem-to-only-four-equations) weren't more prominent in the collection.

I believe AI has full of potential, and I think it's a fantastic [opportunity](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12836/flexibility-and-opportunity-making-the-gig-economy-work-for-you) for academics and students to work together on this extremely fascinating field, Tlili remarked. AiDA is open to designers in Europe and [Asia Pacific](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/34715/what-is-the-rank-of-india-in-global-corruption-perception-index-among-worst-offenders-in-the-asia-pacific-for-graft-press-freedom) and was formally introduced at the Fashion X AI show.
