# According to TRAI data, Jio and Airtel gained more subscribers while Vi saw a decline.

The telecom regulator's data shows that there were 3.6 million fewer mobile subscribers in India in September, with [**Vodafone**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1803/in-5g-spectrum-auction-reliance-jio-airtel-vodafone-idea-and-adani-bid-around-rs-1-45-lakh-crore) Idea seeing a decline in subscribers despite **bigger rivals [Reliance Jio](https://www.mindstick.com/news/520/covid-19-reliance-jio-braves-challenges-to-enhance-net-profit-by-47-5-to-rs-3-508-cr-in-q4-2021) and Bharti Airtel gaining customers month over month.**

Jio, the top mobile provider in India, strengthened its position in the market by acquiring 7,20,000 wireless subscribers in September, while Bharti Airtel saw a 4,12,000 increase in its mobile user base. Notably, although leading competitors in September subscriber additions, Jio's net adds [fell short](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/88335/why-trump-s-big-infrastructure-vision-fell-short) of the telco's August customer increase of 32,81,000.

In September, the **subscriber base of struggling Vodafone Idea decreased to 24.91 crore**, a decrease of 40,00,000 subscribers. At the end of September 22, there were 1,145.45 million wireless subscribers, down from 1,149.11 million at the [end of August](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/36999/is-it-good-to-buy-hal-ipo-which-will-be-launched-by-the-end-of-august-2017). This represents a monthly decline rate of 0.32 percent.

By the end of September 2022, the top five [service providers](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13099/the-importance-of-machine-learning-service-providers) controlled 98.36 percent of the market for broadband users overall. **According to a TRAI report from August, Reliance Jio overtook the [government](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/276/performance-of-government-in-the-center)-run BSNL to claim the title of largest fixed-line [service provider](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/85256/which-is-the-best-accommodation-rooms-and-transportation-service-provider) in the nation**. A private operator had risen to the top of the wireline market for the first time since the nation's telecom services were first introduced.
