# Mahindra's Q4 profit increased by 46% as vehicle sales increased by 75%

Mahindra announced a **second-quarter profit on Friday that was higher than anticipated due to robust demand** for its cars and farm machinery. The [Indian automaker](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/116156/indian-automaker-mahindra-launches-electric-suv-in-ev-push) reported a strong 46 percent increase in profit as overall vehicle sales jumped by 75% year over year to 174,098 units, and it still had more than 260,000 sports utility vehicles [available for booking](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/37716/how-can-i-book-a-badminton-court-to-practice-in-hyderabad-what-courts-are-available-for-booking).

For the three months that ended on September 30, **Mahindra recorded a profit after tax of 20.9 billion Indian rupees, an increase from 14.33 billion the previous year.** Refinitiv IBES figures show that analysts predicted a profit of Rs 1,988 crore.

Mahindra said in a statement that the company's auto segment experienced the highest-ever quarterly volume while the farm equipment sector saw the highest second-quarter volume. The company also stated that exports for both tractors and cars remained strong.

Although there has been robust demand for passenger cars, Indian manufacturers, notably **Mahindra**, are now seeing less of the shortages of semiconductors and higher raw material costs that have plagued the industry since the outbreak.

India's passenger vehicle sales for September nearly doubled from a year earlier to 307,389 units. During the quarter, operating revenue increased by 56.5 percent to Rs. 20,839 crore.

Earlier, Tata Motors saw its loss decrease from a year ago on the strength of demand, while **rival [Maruti Suzuki](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23178/a-brief-on-the-maruti-suzuki-service-centres-in-delhi) [India recorded](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/38362/india-recorded-its-highest-ever-tea-production-at-what-million-kg-during-2015-16) a four-fold increase in quarterly earnings.**

The firms claimed on Thursday that German company Mutares has proposed to buy a controlling 80 percent interest in **Peugeot Motocycles**, which is held by Mahindra.

Mahindra announced earlier this week that it has partnered with **Jio-bp, Statiq, and Charge+Zone as three [electric vehicle](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2275/starting-price-for-the-mercedes-benz-eqe-electric-vehicle-is-76-050) infrastructure partners to provide charging solutions** for its upcoming lineup of passenger [electric vehicles](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/3601/xiaomi-unveiled-first-electric-vehicles).
