# ISRO to Conduct First Reusable Launch Vehicle Runway Landing Experiment

The **Reusable [Launch Vehicle](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/97969/kslv-ii-nuri-rocket-is-the-first-domestically-produced-space-launch-vehicle-of-which-country) - [Technology](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13005/the-functional-aspects-of-laser-technology) Demonstrator (RLV-TDfirst )'s runway landing [experiment](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/43405/who-created-the-holy-experiment) (RLV-LEX)** is scheduled to take place, and [**Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2236/isro-official-gaganyaan-mission-s-first-test-flight-will-occur-in-february-of-next-year) chairman S. Somanath said that the weather is being watched. 'We're examining the climate.

Still not a favourable climate. We are therefore anticipating the onset of the wind and other systems. That's what we'll do 'According to Somanath, who serves as the Department of Space's Secretary.

According to ISRO officials, the **RLV wing body will be carried by helicopter to a height of three to five kilometres** before being launched at a distance of roughly four to five kilometres in front of the runway with a horizontal velocity.

As soon as it is released, the RLV will glide, find the runway, and land on its own at the defence airfield near Chitradurga using its landing gear. There have reportedly been **new systems developed and certified, including landing gear, parachute, hook beam assembly, radar altimeter, and pseudolite**. It is home to the national [space agency](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32252/cryogenic-engine-for-upper-stage-of-gslv-mk-iii-was-successfully-tested-by-which-space-agency).

The basic [technologies](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11429/tools-and-technologies-to-learn-in-2017) for the design and flight testing of re-entry vehicles were successfully demonstrated by [**ISRO**](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2166/isro-s-lvm3-will-launch-36-satellites-as-part-of-its-first-commercial-mission) on May 23, 2016, when it successfully completed its **first RLV-TD HEX-01 (Hypersonic Flight Experiment-01)** mission from SDSC SHAR. The flight, nevertheless, was suborbital and was intended to land in the ocean. According to ISRO, an autonomous approach and landing on a runway will be one of the crucial technologies showcased in the **RLV-LEX** mission.

In order to achieve end-to-end **reusable launch vehicle (RLV) technology [capabilities](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/490/explain-the-concepts-and-capabilities-of-assembly-in-dot-net), this milestone (RLV-LEX) must be completed before the RLV ORE (Orbital Re-Entry Experiment) mission**, according to ISRO officials. In ORE, a wing body called the Orbital Re-entry Vehicle (ORV) will be sent into orbit by an ascent vehicle constructed of the present GSLV and PSLV stages, stay in orbit for a predetermined period of time, re-enter the [atmosphere](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2058/robin-wordsworth-re-creates-the-atmosphere-of-ancient-mars), and land on a runway without human help.

Earlier, during a presentation on ISRO's forthcoming missions at the **Akash Tattva [conference](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11886/must-haves-conference-room-facilities-to-plan-a-corporate-event), Anil Bhardwaj, the director of the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad**, stated that the space agency also aimed to send a probe to Mars.
