# Loop Energy Describes New Hydrogen Fuel Cell as More Efficient than Diesel Engine

On **Sunday**, **Hydrogen** fuel cell maker **Loop Energy** has mentioned that its latest cell system would deliver higher [fuel economy](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/47859/which-is-best-fuel-economy-providing-car-at-present-and-to-how-much-extent) than diesel engine at current price levels.

The **Burnaby**, **[British Columbia](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/43971/how-can-i-apply-to-university-of-british-columbia)-based company** has mentioned that was based on a **pan-European** diesel price of **$1.91 per liter** on **September 5** and **$10 per kg** of hydrogen within which a truck might travel simply over **111 miles (179 km)** on **$100 value of fuel** by the use of its **new S1200 hydrogen fuel cell system** versus a little over a **109 miles** for the same diesel truck.

As an [auto industry](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114172/what-emerging-trends-in-electric-vehicles-are-driving-innovation-and-transforming-the-auto-industry) maker the shift to zero-emission **[electrical vehicles](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1799/audi-to-focus-on-electric-vehicles-and-discontinue-ice-vehicles-by-2033)** (EVs), huge freight truck manufacturers like **Daimler Truck** and **Volvo** were investing heavily in hydrogen fuel cells to haul freight long distances as the batteries weigh a lot to make the electric trucks viable.

Hydrogen fuel cells run hydrogen via a catalyst which would produce energy and warmth to power small battery that drives the truck. Well, the only emission from these cells was water.

Two [challenges](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/325216/challenges-faced-by-technologists-while-performing-the-cloud-migration-process) have been faced by the hydrogen fuel cells for broad adoption: they have been a little less [efficient](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/33637/three-tips-for-an-energy-efficient-home-for-2019) than diesel and fuelling [infrastructure](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2313/a-cybersecurity-and-infrastructure-security-agency-will-monitor-the-us-midterm-elections) in **Europe** was absolutely virtually non-existent.

**Nyland** had mentioned that the new cell system would gradually address the first of all those challenges.

As per **Loop Energy Chief Executive Ben Nyland** “**This would bring future forward**.” “**This product would deliver the economics that would deliver economics which were required for adoption today**.”

Nyland had mentioned that Loop Energy had aimed towards giving the fuel cell system to startup the truck makers and being the part of [hydrogen](https://www.mindstick.com/news/592/isro-planning-for-green-fuels-like-hydrogen-peroxide-for-rockets) powertrains which were provided to big truck makers by major suppliers.

Cummins being the **US engine maker** was the company's biggest [shareholder](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1547/blackberry-trying-to-settle-shareholder-lawsuit-over-blackberry-10-to-avoid-trial), that holds over **20 percent** stake in Loop Energy.
