The manufacturers of smart devices which were connected to the [Internet](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1885/the-government-was-handed-over-algorithm-data-by-the-chinese-internet-giants) have to guarantee that their devices were secure, or risk their product for being prohibited and face fines as high as **EUR 15 million** or up to **2.5 %** of their total [international](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85496/celebration-of-international-chocolate-day) turnover. ``` HIGHLIGHTS Manufacturers of smart devices have to be assure about their devices being secure EU executive would announce the Cyber Resilience Act on September 13 National surveillance authorities permit to limit product from the European market ``` On **September 13**, the [European Union](https://www.mindstick.com/news/565/microsoft-promises-to-keep-data-inside-bloc-for-the-european-union-users) executive would announce the **Cyber Resilience Ac**t, a proposal that would eventually become law. The proposed regulation covers Internet [connected devices](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85703/human-centric-iot-design-ensuring-user-friendly-and-inclusive-connected-devices) like smart TVs, refrigerators and [smart speakers](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1100/growing-demand-of-smart-speakers-smart-display-despite-component-shortage-in-q3-2021-report), proposing demanding rules requiring manufacturers to prop their security. Well, the EU's proposal would expect smart device manufacturers to assess the cyberscurity risks of their product and make sure that flaws and problems were resolved, and inform the **European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA)** of cybersecurity-related incidents in **24 hours**. The proposal also suggests that firms who would not follow the planned rules be penalized the maximum amount as **EUR 15 million** or up to **2.5 %** of their total international turnover, whichever amount would be higher. Though, these fines would be reduced for smaller offences. Similarly, the proposed Cyber Resilience Act would also permits national [surveillance](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/65143/best-surveillance-app-android-phone-blurspy) authorities to limit a product from the European market by ordering that it would be withdrawn or recalled, if it doesn't fit with the principles. The proposed [legislation](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2355/data-protection-legislation-will-stop-the-exploitation-of-client-data-and-punish-offenders) might eventually become law after the EU countries would give input.
