# For Autonomous Driving Xiaomi Reveals the Internally Developed Pilot Technology

Xiaomi’s **CEO Lei Jun** has launched the first progress report for **Xiaomi Pilot Technology** for autonomous driving. **Xiaomi**, in an official [blog](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/blog) had introduced the new totally internal developed autonomous driving solution [referred to as](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39930/at-the-turn-of-the-century-widespread-panic-occurred-that-at-midnight-all-computers-would-reset-to-zero-and-life-as-we-knew-it-would-cease-to-exist-what-was-this-doomsday-theory-commonly-referred-to-as) **Pilot Technology**. The company had pledged to invest **RMB 3.3 billion** within the [development](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/65309/importance-of-ux-design-in-the-development-of-mobile-apps) of the first **R&D phase** of its autonomous driving technology.

Xiaomi has employed over **500 specialists** from around the world for the R&D team of the first phase. The company had initially announced its entry into the smart [electric vehicle](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1799/audi-to-focus-on-electric-vehicles-and-discontinue-ice-vehicles-by-2033) segment in **March 2021**.

At the time of revealing the **CEO** has released a live road test video of its autonomous driving technology. The test video portrayed the technology's safe and intelligent assisted driving approach in multiple scenarios along with **U-turns,** **roundabouts**, and **continuous downhill driving**. The Pilot Technology would come with advanced algorithms. It would be able to take care of variety of scenarios, as it has been added in its [comprehensive](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23461/a-comprehensive-guide-on-luggage-bags-and-cases) list.

The CEO has mentioned that '**Xiaomi's autonomous driving technology would adopt a self-developed full stack approach, and therefore the project has made progress beyond expectations**.'

In order to focus on the long-term industrial strategic [capabilities](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/490/explain-the-concepts-and-capabilities-of-assembly-in-dot-net), [Xiaomi](https://www.mindstick.com/news/686/charge-your-smartphone-in-less-than-8-minutes-xiaomi) would invest another **RMB 2 billion**. This would include over ten upstream and downstream [enterprises](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/44880/who-is-the-minister-of-heavy-industries-and-public-enterprises) in the autonomous driving field. Under the enterprises, Xiaomi would be in charge of core sensors, core actuators, domain [controllers](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/155773/how-asynchronous-controllers-work-in-asp-dot-net-mvc), and more.

In its initial phase, Xiaomi Pilot Technology has been functioning to build a fleet of a **140 test vehicles**.

The project would be Xiaomi's attempt at adopt a self-developed full stack approach to autonomous driving technology, covering all core areas. With this, the autonomous driving algorithms were quickly iterated based on user needs.
