**Meta** has hiked up the price on its **Quest 2** headsets along with the announcement that they would be ending its **Quest 1** support for **Population One**, a popular battle-royale shooter set in [virtual reality](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1430/meta-s-social-virtual-reality-platform-horizon-accumulates-300-000-users). **BigBox VR**, the Meta-owned developer who has been behind the game has shared the update via post on its [blog](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/blog), noting that Quest 1 owners would no longer be able to launch or play the game which would start from **October 31st, 2022**.

HIGHLIGHTS
Meta hiked up the price of Quest 2 headsets along with the end of Quest 1 support
Quest 1 players can play the game technically if they have a VR-ready PC
Meta declared that Quest 1 owners would be refunded for Population: One
```
BigBox VR has mentioned that the closure would be important thus it would concentrate on developing new [experiences](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13062/designing-compelling-site-experiences-for-seo) “**that would push the boundaries of multiplayer VR**.” Quest 1 players would be able to play the [game](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1643/squid-games-series-creator-predicts-season-2-launch-either-in-late-2023-or-early-2024) technically if they would have a **VR-ready PC**. Well, the game supports cross-buy that would make the PC version available via **Air Link** and **Oculus Link**. Therefore, this would let the users to play **Population: One** by connecting their Quest 1 headset to their [computer system](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/158216/how-does-a-computer-system-ensure-that-memory-is-used-efficiently-and-effectively). Along with this, the players who would use the [Quest 2](https://www.mindstick.com/news/911/oculus-quest-2-is-looking-appealing), **Oculus Rift**, and **Oculus Rift S** would still have the access to the game.
Meta has decided to provide Quest 1 owners the refund for Population: One, but “**you have to purchase the game from the Quest Store in the past [six months](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11970/how-to-become-a-successful-blockchain-developer-in-just-six-months)**”. The policy looks quite unfair for a game that got launched on the Quest nearly two years ago and would possibly leave variety of players with a game that they would not even play.
Population: One’s closure had also raised the question of whether the other developers would soon ax support for the three-year-old Quest 1. [Meta](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1744/the-users-of-meta-quest-do-not-require-facebook-account-to-log-in) spokesperson **Caiti Sullivan** has mentioned that the company’s presently “**working out the details of an ecosystem-wide end-of-[support method](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/158924/how-does-c-sharp-support-method-overloading-and-what-are-its-benefits)**,” which “**other developers who would opt to end the support for apps on Quest 1 would be able to do so**.” Meta had declined to comment on the idea whether other games would end Quest 1 support in the future.
