# Antitrust Regulators Targeted Microsoft's Cloud Business

European Commission has accused **Microsoft Cloud** of breaching EU antitrust rules and fined the company a total of EUR 1.6 billion in the previous decade.

The US-based [software company](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/63744/enhance-your-business-via-hiring-professional-software-company) Microsoft has been facing tough days in Europe and the **European Commission** fined the giant software company for breaching antitrust rules of the country. The company faced a [questionnaire](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/34641/why-is-a-questionnaire-a-great-tool-for-your-business) from a platform Reuters that showed, in a move that could lead to a formal [investigation](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2149/twitter-claims-in-court-that-elon-musk-is-the-subject-of-government-investigations). The company can also be scrutinised and renewed.

The Commission of Europe has fined the software company Microsoft for not working with the rules of the country. A **total amount of 1.6 billion (RS. 13431.2700 crore)** has been fined by Microsoft by the EU Regulatory body for not being compliant with its order to halt anti-competitive practices.

Several other technology companies filed a [complaint against](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39605/how-can-i-file-a-complaint-against-the-tamil-nadu-police) Microsoft after which the action of the EU started. The complainant companies include NextCloud, France’s OVHcloud, and two more companies lodged them.

The questionnaire has “The Commission has information that Microsoft may be using its potentially dominant position in certain software markets to foreclose [competition](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23460/5-ways-you-can-use-competition-to-your-benefit) regarding certain cloud [computing services](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/102524/what-role-does-google-cloud-play-in-cloud-computing-services).”

Microsoft said in a statement “We are continuously evaluating how we can best support partners and make Microsoft Software available to customers across all environments, including those of other cloud providers,” said in an emailed statement.

The antitrust chief **Margrethe Vestager** of the [European Union](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81325/european-union-loses-to-china) said she does not has any concern yet about [cloud computing](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12172/programming-cloud-computing-driven-by-scientific-theory-viewpoints-challenges) and cited the competition from Europe’s Gaia-X- initiative.
