# Spotify will stop working in Russia from early April

**[Spotify](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1495/sportify-sponsorship-deal-with-barcelona-team-to-reportedly-fetch-eur-300-million-for-the-club)** is said to stop its services from early April due to new media laws made in Russia. The new legislation makes such activity illegal and reports any event that could discredit the [Russian military](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/100115/why-does-the-russian-military-claim-its-submarines-are-undetectable).

Spotify said on Friday, it will suspend its services in Russia in the view to oblige to the New Media Rules. Other audio [streaming platforms](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115367/how-has-hollywood-adapted-to-the-rise-of-streaming-platforms-and-changing-audiences) closed their services in Russia indef8inately earlier this month citing what it described as Moscow’s “Unprovoked attack on Ukraine.”

Spotify said in a statement “Spotify has continued to believe that its critical importance to try to keep our services operational in Russia to provide trusted, independent [news](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/news) and information from the region,” Spotify further added, “Unfortunately, recently enacted legislation further restricting access to information, eliminating free expression, and criminalizing certain types of news puts the safety of Spotify’s employees and the possibility of even our listeners at risk.”
