# Germany says Russian anti-virus software use is a threat

Germany’s [Cyber Security](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12693/how-big-data-analytics-boosts-cyber-security) authority has warned against the use of **Russian anti-virus software** that is governed by the Kaspersky Company headquarter in Russia. The software may be connected with the spying activity related to the information of Russia. The company in a reply said the warning had been made on the political ground that shows no ties with the Russian Government.

German Cyber Security authority has released a warning statement over the use of the anti-virus software of Kaspersky based in Russia. Authority expects a cyber-attack or any illegal intention behind the platform. The BSI authority has not made any [allegations against](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/84608/what-are-hindenburg-s-allegations-against-adani-detailed-explanation) the company Kaspersky but said the conflict between Russia and Ukraine threats against the [European Union](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81325/european-union-loses-to-china), NATO countries including Germany catches them under the attack of Cyber Security.

The warning said “A Russian IT manufacturer can carry out offensive operations itself, be forced against its will, attack target system, or be spied on as a victim of cyber operations without its knowledge or as a tool for attacks against its customers,” said by German Authority.

The anti-virus has faced many criticisms in the past and banned by many countries including UK and US. In 2017, Donald Trump, former [president of America](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/92985/how-is-the-president-of-america-elected) banned the use of anti-virus software with the help of legislation that restricted the use of Kaspersky anti-virus software within the US government.

The company Kaspersky also said about the matter and asked the clarification from the BSI. It said the decision was “not based on a technical assessment of Kaspersky products,” and asked how to address its concerns.

The company also told Kaspersky is a [private company](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/93007/what-is-private-company-advantages-and-disadvantages) and as a private company, it does not have any ties with Russia or any other governments.
