# WhatsApp Beta for Android crashed, however the bug was fixed with an update: report

## HIGHLIGHTS

The patch is believed to be in [WhatsApp](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/1793/how-to-turn-off-auto-download-media-in-whatsapp) beta for Android 2.22.4.8.

The cause of the app's failure to work for users is currently unknown.

Before installing WhatsApp beta, users are advised to save a backup.

## WHY IN [NEWS](https://www.mindstick.com/developersection/news)

Two editions of the WhatsApp beta for Android were allegedly crashing for users. According to another source, Meta's [instant messaging](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167313/importance-of-instant-messaging-for-business-collaboration) [software](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/311636/best-freelancing-websites-to-get-software-development-services) has published a patch for the flaw that led it to crash. When starting the app or transmitting media, WhatsApp users encountered an unexpected problem. The updated release just contains the repair and does not reveal the cause of the problem. There is, however, a tutorial for users who want to go back to a previous version of WhatsApp beta without losing their conversation data. Meta's instant messaging service was breaking for certain beta testers, according to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp [features](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12993/5-advanced-features-for-your-odoo-ecommerce-theme) tracker. WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.4.6 and 2.22.4.7 was apparently plagued by an undisclosed bug that caused the app to crash when users attempted to access it or transmit media.

According to another report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has published a patch for the bug that caused its Android [beta testing](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2603/gmail-end-to-end-encryption-beta-testing-is-now-available-to-more-users-in-a-selected-workspace) app to crash. WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.4.8 includes the patch. The cause for the app failing on some Android handsets was not mentioned in the report. Before switching to a new beta edition, the WhatsApp features tracker advises users to back up their data on [Google Drive](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/3667/whatsapp-soon-end-free-google-drive-data-backup-in-2024). Users can avoid their data from being lost if the beta app has a flaw that causes it to crash. Reverting to a previous build is one of the [solutions](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12807/product-searching-issues-and-solutions-for-ecommerce-store-advanced-search-autocomplete-suggest) available before the app receives a problem patch.

WABetaInfo also includes a tutorial for those who want to downgrade to a previous version without losing their data or having to reinstall it. While iOS users may revert to a previous version without uninstalling the programme, Android users will still have to [download](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/188403/website-to-download-photos-from-instagram) the [older version](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94514/how-can-i-continue-using-an-older-version-of-whatsapp-without-updating-it) through a third-party app downloading website, according to the tutorial.
