# How can I test Claude computer-use actions without risking real files?

I’m interested in using Claude for desktop tasks, but I’m hesitant to let an agent interact with a machine that has work files, logged-in accounts, and open applications.

What does a sensible test setup look like for **[computer-use actions](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117420/how-can-you-tell-whether-claudes-computer-use-actions-match-what-is-actually-on-screen)**? I’d like to learn how people check that an agent can recover from a wrong click or an unexpected screen before giving it access to anything important. Is a disposable virtual machine enough, or are there other safeguards you consider essential?
