# Why does DeepSeek Chat sometimes show a thinking section?

In DeepSeek Chat, I sometimes see a visible “thinking” section before the final response, while other replies appear to show only the answer. Is that difference tied to the selected model or mode, or does it depend on the question? I’m trying to understand what changes between those responses, not just how the text is displayed.
