# If I replace a file in a Claude Project, do existing chats use the updated version?

I keep reference documents in a Claude Project, and one of them changes regularly. If I replace that file, will a chat I already have open use the updated project knowledge, or does it keep working from the version it had when the conversation started?

I’m trying to figure out whether I need to start a fresh chat after updating a document, especially when the change affects details I’m asking about later in the same conversation.
