# Does the DeepSeek API expose reasoning traces the same way as the chat app?

I’m comparing DeepSeek in the chat app with its API and can’t tell whether they expose the same reasoning information. Does the API return a separate reasoning field for supported models, or is that detail only shown in the interface?

If the behavior depends on the model or API configuration, which distinction should I check before building an app around it?
