# Can Claude Artifacts access external APIs or files on my computer?

I’ve been trying out Claude Artifacts for small interactive tools, but I’m not clear on what they can reach outside the artifact itself. Can an artifact make requests to an external API, or read files stored on my computer?

I’m asking because the answer affects whether I can use one for a project that needs live data. If you’ve tested these boundaries, what happened?
