# Does Perplexity use an uploaded PDF alongside web search in the same answer?

I sometimes want to ask a question about a PDF I’ve uploaded and have Perplexity check the answer against current web sources in the same thread. Can it draw on both the document and web search together, or does attaching a file change the answer into a document-only response?

If it does use both, how can I tell which claims came from the PDF and which are supported by web citations?
