# Can Grok search the public web without mixing in X posts?

When I ask Grok to look something up, I’m not always sure whether the results are coming from the wider web, posts on X, or a mix of both. For research where I want regular websites rather than social posts, is there a way to make that source preference explicit?

I’d also like to know whether Grok makes the [source types](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/22864/different-source-types-of-uiimagepickercontroller-to-pick-images) clear in its answer, or if I need to check each citation myself.
