# What data controls apply when using DeepSeek through an API provider?

I’m considering DeepSeek for a small application, but I’m unsure how to assess data handling when the model is accessed through an API. Does the answer depend on whether I use DeepSeek’s own service or a third-party provider hosting the model?

For anyone who has looked into this, what should I check about **prompt retention and training use** before sending user content? I’m also interested in how those terms compare with running a model on infrastructure I control.
