# Can Grok remember preferences between chats, and can I review them?

I’d like Grok to remember small preferences, like whether I want concise answers or metric units, without having to repeat them in every conversation. Does it carry details from one chat into another, or is that only possible through instructions I set myself?

If there is a memory feature, can users see and remove what it has retained? I’m interested in how **preferences between chats** actually work, not just whether a new conversation starts with the same custom instructions.
